History Lecturer

About the role

The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in the British Virgin Islands is seeking a full-time History Lecturer to teach in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department. The lecturer must be comfortable teaching the listed courses and have a deep understanding of the subject matter.

Key responsibilities

• Teach five courses (15-17 credit hours) per semester, including Caribbean History, Western Civilization, World Civilization and Introduction to Africa/African History.
• Deliver day, evening, weekend and online courses at the assigned campus or centre, possibly at more than one location.
• Develop innovative course syllabi and provide a quality learning experience for all students.
• Act as an academic advisor to students.
• Show innovative pedagogy in face-to-face and online settings.
• Engage with external institutions and the wider community to support research, teaching and the college's strategic goals.
• Help market the department's programmes and recruit students.
• Participate actively in department or college committees.

Required profile

• An earned doctorate in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution, with at least four years of teaching or academic experience and evidence of continuing scholarship.
• Or a master's degree or equivalent and seven years of successful teaching or academic experience as a Lecturer, with evidence of continuing scholarship.

Required skills

• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to mentor and coach students in their professional development.
• Familiarity with educational technology and digital tools, and competence teaching in person and virtually.
• Collaborative leadership and advocacy with colleagues and external partners.

What we offer

• Salary of $55,438.33 (USD), with the first $10,000 tax-exempted and 8% tax thereafter.
• 8% gratuity on successful completion of the contract.
