Deputy Director, Authorisation

About the role

The British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission is seeking a Deputy Director for its Authorisation Unit. This senior position will lead risk‑based supervision, policy development and stakeholder engagement to strengthen the regulatory framework.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and manage supervisory risks across the financial services sector and advise on regulatory improvements.
• Develop and enhance authorisation policies, procedures and guidance for the Commission and regulated entities.
• Lead the preparation of statistics and reports for internal and external stakeholders, including international standard‑setting bodies.
• Oversee learning programmes and deliver supervisory training to staff.
• Manage the AU’s projects, performance appraisals, recruitment and staff development.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Business Management or related field (or Bachelor’s with extensive experience).
• 7‑10 years senior management experience in financial services, including supervisory/regulatory, audit or compliance roles.
• Accreditation in banking, insurance, investments, trust services, virtual assets, AML or fraud prevention.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and deliver results within set timeframes.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Project management and policy‑making expertise.
• In‑depth knowledge of international supervisory standards (IOSCO, Basel, FATF, etc.).
