Assistant Linesman - Transmission & Distribution

About the role

BVI Electricity Corporation is hiring an Assistant Linesman in its Transmission and Distribution Department, reporting to the T&D Foreman-Lines. The role supports a safe, reliable and high-quality electrical supply by helping build, maintain, inspect and repair the transmission and distribution network. It is primarily field-based, involves outdoor work and requires physical fitness.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with construction and maintenance of low-voltage and high-voltage circuits.
• Support installation and maintenance of poles, conductors, insulators, transformers, service connections, streetlights and line hardware.
• Help with pole planting and replacement, line inspections, vegetation clearing and site preparation.
• Support qualified personnel during fault investigations, repairs and restoration of supply.
• Prepare, identify, transport and handle tools, materials and equipment.
• Assist authorised personnel with isolation and restoration support only within assigned duties, training and authorisation.
• Follow safety rules, take part in job briefings and risk assessments, and use personal protective equipment.
• Keep work areas clean, look after equipment and help with basic work records.
• Take part in after-hours emergency restoration and assignments on sister islands, and stay on call outside normal hours.

Required profile

• High school diploma (minimum); technical or vocational study in electrical installation, mechanical technology or a related field is an asset.
• At least one year of relevant work experience; previous electrical, construction or maintenance experience is an asset.
• Physical fitness and stamina for demanding outdoor utility work, including lifting, carrying equipment, climbing poles and working at heights after training.
• Willingness to work weekends, on call and after hours, and to travel throughout the BVI when needed.
