Legal Counsel

About the role

The International Tax Authority (ITA) seeks an experienced Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal advice, manage litigation, and support legislative and regulatory compliance across the Authority.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on legislative, regulatory and operational matters and monitor legislative developments.
• Prepare and manage litigation, prosecutions and court proceedings, including drafting pleadings and representing the Authority.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, employment agreements, legislative amendments and internal policies.
• Ensure compliance with local and international legislation, conduct legal research and recommend risk mitigation strategies.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Law and Bar Professional Training Course Certificate or equivalent.
• Admission to the British Virgin Islands Bar (or imminent call) or another recognised common‑law Bar.
• Five to seven years post‑qualification experience, including court proceedings, criminal prosecutions and legal advisory work.
• Strong advocacy, drafting, analytical and negotiation skills with high professional integrity.
